Through the Door…. Step into Four!
At Mernda Primary Schools, Year 4 builds on the students’ Literacy and Numeracy skills and fosters the curious minds of our learners. Students are supported to become school and classroom leaders as they build on their Personal and Social Capabilities in readiness for entry into their last two years of school.
Students are given opportunities to apply for classroom and school leadership roles. Each class elects a member to the School Representative Council (SRC) to represent them at regular meetings with other class representatives from Grades 3-6. Grade 4s have an opportunity to become Wizz Kids by demonstrating responsibility and a passion for Digital Technologies.
Students become leaders in their own learning as they set goals with the teacher to achieve success in Literacy and Numeracy. Their curiosity is fostered through our Inquiry learning as we explore areas such as; our connection to the local community through Local Government, Australia’s first people and the arrival of the first fleet and the geography of Australia in comparison to Africa and South America.
Extra Curricular Activities
We are involved in many incursions and excursions that bring our learning to life through unique experiences like a trip to Werribee Open Range Zoo, exploring Melbourne’s significant historical sites and visits from guest speakers such as Local Government Councillors.
Students get to participate in school wide activities that allow them to extend their sporting abilities through the Grade 3-6 Athletics Carnival, Swimming Carnival and events like Hoop Time and Cross Country running.
A highlight for Year 4 students comes in Term 2 when we head off for three days to Camp Arrabri for an amazing experience full of adventure and independence.
